Operations Manager, Specialty Pharmacy

Position Summary

The Operations Manager, Specialty Pharmacy supports the client in the specialty pharmacy selection process, provides patient journey recommendations and understands the standard levels of services (core and enhanced) offered by specialty pharmacies and other alternative vendors such as digital pharmacies.

Roles & Responsibilities

Project and Account Management [approx. 30% of time]: 

    • Develops, nurtures, and maintains strong client relationships
    • Demonstrates knowledge of project management concepts
    • Researches and resolves client and/or internal issues of concern, identifies root cause and escalates as needed
    • Communicates with and engages internal subject matter experts as needed
    • Strong decision-making skills
    • Strong customer service skills
    • Good analytical and problem-solving skills

Analysis, Planning & Strategy [25%]:  

    • Defines client specialty pharmacy requirements 
    • Creates a specialty pharmacy scorecard, as applicable 
    • Secures CDAs 
    • Creates customized RFI/RFP 
    • Creates a RFI/RFP analysis
    • Creates a financial comparison and forecast 
    • Attends sites visits 
    • Works with the client to select partners
    • Assists and designs the specialty pharmacy program (patient journey) with the client 
    • Reviews contract templates and supplies feedback 
    • Recommends the core and enhanced services the client needs
    • Reviews business rules drafted by the specialty pharmacy partners or client
    • Ability and knowledge to create business rules to support vendor contracts 
    • Reviews data elements provided by the data aggregator or client
    • Coordinates and host meetings, including site visits, partner summits, etc.

Implementation [35%]:  

    • Manages project scope, change control, monitor project progress and performance for the specialty pharmacy portion of the project 
    • Delivers a detailed project plan of responsibilities to Account Director including timelines, deliverables, and milestones
    • Monitors project communication and task coordination with the client, Account Director, and selected specialty pharmacy 
    • Partners with Account Director to collaborate and prioritize implementation projects, as required 
    • Uses industry standard tools for project tracking, collaboration and reporting, such as: MS Excel, MS SharePoint and SalesForce 
    • Reviews business rules drafted by the SPPs or client or work with client and SPPs to create business rules as outlined in the SOW 
    • Reviews data elements provided by the data aggregator or client
    • Attends or hosts specialty pharmacy summits, as guided by the client’s SOW

Other Duties [10%]:

    • Keeps abreast of industry trends through attendance at industry conferences, reading journals, and other sources 
    • Maintains records in client relationship management software (Salesforce) 
    • Performs other duties and projects as necessary

Desired Experience and Education

  • Requires broad knowledge and training in the oversight of specialty pharmacy and reimbursement programs
  • Proven track record of management roles in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Knowledge of full-service call center programs and operations
  • General knowledge of reimbursement, patient assistance programs, database elements and functionality
  • General knowledge of the project lifecycle 
  • Expertise in business rules and operational policy design and execution 
  • Requires a minimum five (5) years of pharmacy or industry related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience demonstrating capacity to perform the required work

Additional Position Information

  • Flexible hours with appropriate coordination with principals and clients as needed
  • Remote Position, in office option available in Columbus, OH area 
  • Some travel expected (up to 25% which equates, on average, to approximately 4 nights per month) 
  • Base salary plus performance incentive bonuses
